The focus is on research in the patent literature and a market analysis. If the prospects for commercial exploitation are positive, a patent application is initiated. The aim is to license or sell this protective right to industry. But even with spin-offs, many details, especially regulations on usage rights, must be taken into account for a sustainably successful transfer of knowledge and technology. These activities are often carried out by specialized patent exploitation agencies or external patent offices in cooperation with patent attorneys.
